Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) – The Natural Filler
What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, also known as the ‘Vampire Facelift’ or ‘Dracula Therapy’ is a revolutionary cosmetic procedure that naturally rejuvenates the skin.* A small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn (similar to routine blood tests in the doctor’s office), and placed in a device to separate the elements of the blood to generate a platelet-rich fibrin matrix. This matrix contains the growth factors your body uses to initiate and control wound healing. Dr. Doumit uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to improve wrinkles, folds and scars (including acne scars) on your face.*
Is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy Right for Me?
If you are looking for a natural filler with no risk of allergic reaction, this may be a great option for you. Almost anyone can be a candidate for the Platelet Rich Plasma treatment. It can be used for the following*:
– Improve the forehead, glabellar, periorbital (crow’s feet) lines
– Improve nasolabial folds
– Improve the marionette lines (the ones that extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin)
– Treat acne scars
– Improve the vertical lip lines (lipstick lines)
– Improve the appearance of dehydrated or mildly sagging skin on the back of the hands, on the top of the feet, elbows and knees
– Stimulate hair growth on the scalp
How does Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy work?
After a thorough consultation with Dr. Doumit, during which your goals and expectations will be fully addressed, the procedure will begin. The treatment area will be cleaned and topical numbing cream is applied. Next, the nurse draws approximately two teaspoons of your blood. The drawn blood is spun in a centrifuge. This process separates the platelets from the blood. The platelets are then isolated and prepared for injection. Upon re-injection the platelets release their growth factors which trigger surrounding cells to proliferate, in turn stimulating repair, increasing volume and rejuvenating the skin.
What Happens after Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
This procedure requires little recovery time and usually no downtime at all.* Immediately after treatment, the treated area should look slightly red, though this typically fades in a few hours. Very little bruising and some mild swelling may be observed, which, in most patients, fades in a few days.
