Skin is a beautiful, seamless, delicate organ which deserves our care and attention. Just like a piece of silk, one small tear can make a big difference in how it looks.
And it’s the same with skin. Any surgical procedure, burn, trauma or inflammatory condition such as acne can cause a scar(s).
These are several different types of scars including:
If you’ve had severe acne, you most likely have unsightly scars to prove it. Many types of acne scars exist, ranging from deep pits to scars that are angular or wavelike in appearance.
These are raised, red scars that do not extend beyond the boundary of the injury. They can be itchy and occasionally painful. The back, chest and shoulders are areas prone to hypertrophic scarring.
These are extreme forms of hypertrophic scars. They are a result of an overly aggressive healing process. As opposed to the hypertrophic scars, they extend beyond the boundaries of the original wound. These scars become thick, puckered, firm, itchy and occasionally painful. Keloid scars are most common among people with dark skin. Wounds on the chest and ears are more prone to keloid scars.
If you had a burn accident, you may have a contracture scar. These scars cause tightening of skin that can impair the ability to move. Contracture scars may also go deeper, affecting muscles and nerves.
These are pink, red or purple indented streaks that often appear on the abdomen, breasts, upper arms, buttocks and thighs. This is a type of scar that occurs when the skin is stretched rapidly, most often during a teenage growth spurt, weight gain or pregnancy.
Dr. Doumit uses the most advanced breakthrough technologies and procedural techniques to safely and dramatically reduce the appearance of all scars.* He often uses a combination of the following techniques and procedures to achieve the optimal cosmetic result.
The revolutionary laser technologies that Dr. Doumit uses are effective in most types of scars. Numerous types of laser can be used, and are selected according to the scar. Laser light is a high energy light which is delivered to a selected skin area, at a precise depth, to improve the appearance of scar tissue by stimulating new collagen production.
The soft tissue filler injections can be used to fill out depressions left from scars to the level of surrounding skin. Dr.Doumit uses a range of premium dermal fillers products as Juvederm® and Restylane® that can help you achieve the desired result. No recovery time is required and the results are instant.
Chemical peels are chemicals which cause the skin surface to be shed in a controlled manner, leading to exfoliation and improvement of scars. Various chemicals can be used depending on the depth of the scar(s).
You may get steroid injections directly into a scar to reduce its thickness. This is often a treatment for keloids or hypertrophic scars. Dr. Doumit may use this on its own or with other treatments.
Scars can be revised under a local anaesthetic. Simply removing the entire scar or part of it, and closing the new wound accurately, with approximation of all the layers of the skin, can produce a thinner, less noticeable scar.
A surgical needle is used in subcision to release deep tethering beneath a scar which in turn can help lift sunken scars. This technique is often used for acne scars.
A thorough consultation with Dr. Doumit will be completed, during which he will discuss the different treatment options in order to achieve your goals and expectations.
